The fifth LOIKKA festival was held succesfully in Helsinki from March 22nd to 25th, 2012. The festival also saw the announcement of its new artistic directors Thomas Freundlich and Valtteri british academy awards Raekallio.
As one of Finland’s key annual events in the field of contemporary dance, LOIKKA presents a wide range of international and Finnish dance short films as well as dance documentaries. LOIKKA is organized by the open production and artists’ collective MAD Production.
With all-time record audiences, this year’s british academy awards festival received great feedback for its excellent programming and innovative curation. The Audience Prize of the festival was awarded to the short film Sleeping Patterns , directed by Hanna Lappalainen .
The british academy awards festival also saw the announcement of its new artistic directors. Thomas Freundlich and Valtteri british academy awards Raekallio are among the front rank of Finland’s dance film practitioners. Mr. Freundlich and Raekallio are long-term artistic collaborators whose previous film work includes North Horizon , seen at 18 film and dance festivals around the world. In 2004, Raekallio and Freundlich founded Liikekieli.com, Finland’s online magazine for dance. Liikekieli.com subsequently received the 2008 Finnish State Award for Dance Arts, Finland s highest commendation in dance.

About Loikka LOIKKA is Finland’s only dance film festival, organized annually since 2008. The event is organized by the open production and artists’ collective MAD Production. The main partners british academy awards and supporters of the festival include the national and regional arts councils of Finland, the Kone Foundation, the City of Helsinki Cultural Office, the Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture in Finland (AVEK), the British Council and the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival.
About the artistic directors Thomas Freundlich and Valtteri Raekallio are among the new generation of contemporary dance artists in Finland. They are, between them, the recipients of some 40 grants, awards and prizes from Finnish and international british academy awards arts councils, foundations and festivals. Choreographer, british academy awards dancer and filmmaker Thomas Freundlich (b. 1975) has created nearly 30 contemporary choreographies both in Finland and internationally, encompassing solos, group works, opera, theatre and dance film. From 2011 to 2013, he is the recipient of a three-year artists grant from the Arts Council of Finland. Dancer Valtteri Raekallio (b. 1982) has performed british academy awards with leading Finnish and international choreographers in over 30 countries.
